About Simple Retro Games

A small collection of free classic games and puzzles, made to be quick to start, pleasant to play and kind to your privacy.

Who makes it

Simple Retro Games is made by The Seasoned Programmer. For more, visit the YouTube channel The Seasoned Programmer (@theseasonedprogrammer).

The games

  • Club Checkers: Classic 8×8 checkers against a friend or a computer at four strengths.
  • Tricky Triangle: The 15-hole peg puzzle: jump pegs until only one is left.
  • Minesweeper: Clear the minefield, using the numbers as clues.
  • Lighthouse Keepers: An artillery duel across a windy harbour. Smash the other lantern.

Each game has its own pages explaining the rules and how to play well, and its own record of how you're doing. New games are added from time to time.

How the site works

Everything happens in your browser. The games are written in TypeScript and run on your own device, and nothing about your games is sent to a server. Games in progress, your records and your settings are saved in your browser's local storage, so you can close the tab and come back later. There are no accounts to create and nothing to install.

The site is free, and advertising pays for it. The privacy policy explains what that involves and how to opt out of personalized ads.
